"Many issues confront our state and nation. Being able to differentiate between wants and needs and moving Montana towards not just fiscal responsibility, but long-term fiscal sustainability should be a goal of all candidates. Just because our nation is headed in the wrong direction doesn't mean that Montana has to follow. Corporations and small businesses have all had to downsize. Now it's time for the State of Montana to downsize it's government. Old useless and costly programs must be cut. New proposals must be cost-effective and true needs. All current projects must be reassessed to determine their validity and cost. Preserving states rights in a time when the federal government is trying to "nationalize" states is a priority as well."

I am running to serve the hard working people of Gallatin County in the State Senate. Once elected, I will apply my twenty five years worth of legal experience, and my demonstrated commitment to conservative ideals, so we can effectively advance our shared principles of: Respect for constitutional rights to liberty and property, Spending accountability, Openness in government, and Promoting private sector prosperity by adding value to our State's natural resources. These fundamental principles have always been important throughout history, and are even more so now.

Long-time Montana resident: 52 out of 55 years, born in Sheridan MT.
Graduate of Bozeman High School and MSU.
Present service activities: Mentor and advanced math instructor in primary schools, Boy Scout leader.
Career: 29 years as owner of Marathon Seat Covers. Retired from business.
Family man: Married to Melani since 1976, father of four, two grandchildren
Why am I running? I am alarmed by out-of-control government spending at all levels, even in the state. I am concerned that government is rapidly taking over large swaths of the economy, intruding into our personal choices and repudiating the principles upon which this country was founded and which are necessary for true human flourishing. The U.S. has large unfunded liabilities; so does our state. It seems the government has made more promises than it can keep. I advocate for private property, low taxes, strong families, free enterprise, limited government and the rule of law.

I want to work hard for solutions that serve the residents of my district and the citizens of Montana. We need to elect representatives that have the peoples best interests on the top of there priority list, not their political parties. Bringing quality solutions to Helena that solve the problems that affect Montanan’s will diffuse the partisan bickering. I believe that working for a common goal, a strong and prosperous Montana, will allow legislators to reach across the isle and get sound legislation passed.

My bid for this office stems out of a deep concern for the direction of our Nation and State. Stated in the 2nd paragraph of the” Declaration of Independence”, the purpose of our government exists to “Secure our Rights,” not to control our lives. Now 234 years later, BIG government desires to control or regulate most every detail of our lives, thus limiting our rights as free people. Not only endangering our freedoms/ liberties, but liberally spending our hard earned dollars at unbelievable rates, producing debts not possible to be paid. I stand for limited government, fiscal responsibility, and a tax structure that will encourage small business growth and free enterprise here in Montana. Working in the area of conservation myself, I believe in the utilization and wise stewardship of our natural resources, and employing technology that encourages a clean environment. It’s common sense that “unlocking” Montana’s rich natural resources will lessen the financial burden on its citizens. I desire, with integrity and truth, to represent Montana and House District 66.

As a resident of Gallatin County since 1991, and a homeowner in Gallatin Gateway since 1996, I have a fervent love for the pristine beauty of God’s Creation in this magnificent corner of Big Sky Country. As a hunter, a fisherman, skier, hiker and windsurfer, I frequently make the most of it! As a man who has designed and built his own log home with the help of friends and family, I strongly believe in the American dream that each of us should have the right and the opportunity to pursue his or her own destiny. Unfortunately, such opportunities seemingly grow fewer with each passing year as our personal liberties and free market opportunities are further restricted. My goal as a future state legislator is to change that. What we need is a government that is better, not bigger. A government that respects our freedoms, defends our families, and provides excellence in the essential services it is constitutionally required to deliver. I pledge to work tirelessly in behalf of these goals, and to represent the people of House District 70 with dignity, integrity and honor.

Congressman Rehberg's priorities for the future are clear: he wants to ensure American security at home and abroad, provide for a quality public education so that every child has the ability to achieve his or her fullest potential, and is committed to keeping America's promise to our senior citizens by preserving Social Security and Medicare, which now offers a comprehensive prescription drug benefit.
